STROKE

Stroke dibagi menjadi dua jenis yaitu stroke iskemik maupun stroke hemorragik. Pada stroke iskemik, aliran darah ke otak terhenti karena aterosklerosis (penumpukan kolesterol pada dinding pembuluh darah) atau bekuan darah yang telah menyumbat suatu pembuluh darah ke otak. Hampir sebagian besar pasien atau sebesar 83% mengalami stroke jenis ini.

Pada stroke hemorragik, pembuluh darah pecah sehingga menghambat aliran darah yang normal dan darah merembes ke dalam suatu daerah di otak dan merusaknya. Hampir 70 persen kasus stroke hemorrhagik terjadi pada penderita hipertensi.
Pada stroke iskemik, penyumbatan bisa terjadi di sepanjang jalur pembuluh darah arteri yang menuju ke otak. Darah ke otak disuplai oleh dua arteria karotis interna dan dua arteri vertebralis. Arteri-arteri ini merupakan cabang dari lengkung aorta jantung.

Suatu ateroma (endapan lemak) bisa terbentuk di dalam pembuluh darah arteri karotis sehingga menyebabkan berkurangnya aliran darah. Keadaan ini sangat serius karena setiap pembuluh darah arteri karotis dalam keadaan normal memberikan darah ke sebagian besar otak. Endapan lemak juga bisa terlepas dari dinding arteri dan mengalir di dalam darah, kemudian menyumbat arteri yang lebih kecil.

Pembuluh darah arteri karotis dan arteri vertebralis beserta percabangannya bisa juga tersumbat karena adanya bekuan darah yang berasal dari tempat lain, misalnya dari jantung atau satu katupnya. Stroke semacam ini disebut emboli serebral (emboli = sumbatan, serebral = pembuluh darah otak) yang paling sering terjadi pada penderita yang baru menjalani pembedahan jantung dan penderita kelainan katup jantung atau gangguan irama jantung (terutama fibrilasi atrium).

Emboli lemak jarang menyebabkan stroke. Emboli lemak terbentuk jika lemak dari sumsum tulang yang pecah dilepaskan ke dalam aliran darah dan akhirnya bergabung di dalam sebuah arteri.
Stroke juga bisa terjadi bila suatu peradangan atau infeksi menyebabkan penyempitan pembuluh darah yang menuju ke otak. Obat-obatan (misalnya kokain dan amfetamin) juga bisa mempersempit pembuluh darah di otak dan menyebabkan stroke.

Penurunan tekanan darah yang tiba-tiba bisa menyebabkan berkurangnya aliran darah ke otak, yang biasanya menyebabkan seseorang pingsan. Stroke bisa terjadi jika tekanan darah rendahnya sangat berat dan menahun. Hal ini terjadi jika seseorang mengalami kehilangan darah yang banyak karena cedera atau pembedahan, serangan jantung atau irama jantung yang abnormal.

Jantung Koroner

Penyakit Pembuluh Darah Jantung sering disebut juga Penyakit Jantung Koroner (PJK). Penyakit ini timbul akibat terjadinya arterosklerosis pada arteri koronaria yang memberi darah pada otot jantung. Akibatnya terjadi penyempitan dari penampang pembuluh darah koroner, sampai terjadi sumbatan.Bila penyempitan lebih dari 50 persen, otot jantung akan kekurangan darah.

Akibatnya, terjadilah angina pectoris (rasa nyeri pada jantung) dan gangguan irama jantung (arrhythmia). Bila terjadi penyumbatan total, dapat terjadi infark otot jantung yang akut (acute myocard infarction).Presentase terjadinya penyakit jantung koroner pada pria lebih banyak daripada wanita.

Di perkotaan lebih banyak daripada di pedesaan, pekerja otak lebih banyak daripada pekerja fisik. Biasanya menyerang kelompok usia di atas 40 tahun, tetapi kecenderungan kelompok yang lebih muda semakin besar (sekitar 60 persen), dibarengi penyakit tekanan darah tinggi.

Beberapa faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya penyakit jantung koroner antara lain :

- Merokok

- Terlalu lelah

- Terlalu tegang atau stress

- Terlalu banyak konsumsi makanan berlemak atau kolesterol jahat

- Kurang gerak badan- Kelebihan berat badan atau kegemukan

- Penyakit hipertensi

- Penyakit kencing manis

- Perubahan cuaca, kedinginanKematian mendadak (sudden death) kadang-kadang terjadi pada penderita gangguan jantung.

History of Magnetic Therapy

According to one legend, the phenomenon of magnetism was supposedly discovered, and named after, a Greek shepherd, named Magnes, whose iron staff became strongly attracted to a lodestone rock. Other legends claim that magnetism was first discovered in an ancient part of Europe known as Magnesia.The therapeutic power of magnets was known to physicians in ancient Greece, Egypt and China over 4000 years ago, who used naturally magnetic rock (known as lodestone or magnetite) to treat a variety of physical and psychological ailments.

Cleopatra (69 - 30 BC) was said to wear a magnet on her forehead to maintain her beauty, and was also said to recommend magnets to treat the gout that was prevalent among her Roman allies. In A.D. 46, the physician Scribonius Largus recommended the use of the electric torpedo fish to cure headaches and gouty arthritis. Ancient Romans also used magnet therapy to treat eye disease, the French physician Marcel used it to treat headaches, and the Islamic physician

Avicenna (980 - 1037) to treat depression.In the 16th Century, the famous Swiss physician and alchemist, Paracelus, was responsible for ‘rediscovering’ magnetic therapy and used it widely in his practice precipitating a resurgence in its popularity in Europe. He declared that “The magnet is the king of all secrets” and used it to treat a variety of conditions including headache and rheumatic problems. He also recommended drinking a solution made by adding ground lodestone to water.

The 18th Century Viennese physician, Franz Anton Mesmer believed that magnets could enhance a Universal force that permeated the body, which he called ‘animal magnetism’.Today, magnetic therapy is popular in Japan and parts of Europe, but has only recently become widely known in the West.

In 1959, surgeons in the US found that amputated amphibian limbs could be regrown when an electromagnetic field was used.Animal studies in the early 1970’s suggested that it was only the negative pole of a magnet that has beneficial effects on living cells.

Around the same time, researchers also discovered that weak electrical currents (which will produce a magnetic field) could enhance the healing of bone fractures, and strong electromagnetic fields are now used by many orthopaedic surgeons to hasten the healing of bone fractures. The reported success rate is over 80%, even in cases of non-union where other procedures had previously failed.

Magnetic therapy is now also used by some doctors to encourage healing of persistent wounds and ulcers, swelling (oedema) and sometimes to treat deep vein thrombosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is also widely used as a diagnostic technique to visualise internal parts of the body, and produces better results, more safely, than using X-rays.
